Many a times people blame the failure of the Super Eagles to the lack of having much home based players in the squad, as the foreign based players are not patriotic enough to help us lift the trophy. But the new Super Eagles lead by a former captain of the team coach Stephen Keshi has provided the team with a balance squad, with both the foreign and home based players representing every department of play, therefore ensuring that no player is sure or guaranteed a starting jersey. But this effort came at the expense of some of the nations big name players, who we believed woukd have made the list if other coaches were giving the mantle of the team. Players that suffered the the AXE of coach Stephen Keshi are Osaze Odemwinge, Obafemi Martins and Taye Taiwo among others. The full squad are as follows:Goalkeepers: Vincent Enyeama (Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel); Austin Ejide (Hapoel Be’er Sheba, Israel); Chigozie Agbim (Enugu Rangers); Daniel Akpeyi (Heartland)Defenders: Elderson Echiejile (FC Braga, Portugal); Juwon Oshaniwa (Ashdod FC, Israel); Benjamin Francis (Heartland); Joseph Yobo (Fenerbahce, Turkey); Efe Ambrose (Celtic, Scotland); Solomon Kwambe (Sunshine Stars); Azubuike Egwuekwe (Warri Wolves); Danny Shittu (Millwall FC, England); Kenneth Omeruo (ADO Den Haag, Netherlands); Godfrey Oboabona (Sunshine Stars)Midfielders: Mikel Obi (Chelsea, England); Nosa Igiebor (Real Betis, Spain); Ogenyi Onazi (SS Lazio, Italy); Raheem Lawal (Adana Demirspor, Turkey); Obiora Nwankwo (Calcio Padova, Italy); Fegor Ogude (Valerenga, Norway); Gabriel Reuben (Kano Pillars); Rabiu Ibrahim (Celtic, Scotland)Forwards: Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow, Russia); Emmanuel Emenike (Spartak Moscow, Russia); Brown Ideye (Dynamo Kiev, Ukraine); Victor Moses (Chelsea, England); Uche Kalu (Rizespor, Turkey); Bright Dike (Portland Timbers, USA); Shola Ameobi (Newcastle FC, England); Ikechukwu Uche (Villarreal FC, Spain); Ejike Uzoenyi (Enugu Rangers); Sunday Mba (Enugu Rangers)
We hope that at the end Nigerians will not blame the coach for not including them in the squad? We hope and pray that we get to lift the Nations Cup again come 2013.
